The Corn Festival

Today, I got the family together and we went up to the Corn Festival in Beacon, NY. This is Pete Seeger country, and true to form her was there with his straw hat on and his banjo slung over his back. It’s really quite a thrill to see him each time I see him, though he is the kind of guy that would probably say that to any one of us. He is walking history and I learn something about the craft everytime I watch him. I could go on, but I can’t say anything you probably don’t already know!

I was lucky enough to get a set on the Children’s stage. It went pretty well, though in restrospect I might have plugged into the amp. I did it acoustic since I thought it would be more intimate that way.  People were still ambling over from the main stage where Pete had just finished. I also saw Spook Handy do a really nice set on the stage after me, with accompanyment by Mara Levine and Dennis (last name?) on harmony and percussion.

Overall it was a beautiful day on a *clean* Hudson River, and I was reminded by much of the music, that the Hudson River was not always this way! Check out www.beaconsloopclub.org when you get a chance and you will learn all about their efforts. Other than that, my daughter Arlana was a hit with everyone who came by!

WHUD 100.7 Interview

I was interviewed by Catherine Michaels on the radio tonight. Actually, we taped it last Wednesday, but it aired tonight at 10:30PM. Pretty cool! I thought it went pretty well, and she did a nice job of editing it down to a few minutes after about a half hour chat. It even turns out she went to my high school! (That being Brentwood High, Brentwood, Long Island). She played Be the Change from my new record Summer’s Voice. (Which by the way you can own FREE by downloading it from my website www.arlonbennett.com)

The interview actually came about from a gig I did at the Peekskill Celebration back in July. As my mother would say: “Da cose nasce cose”, which in Italian means: “From one thing others are born”. You get the gist.. Things happen when you put other things in motion. So there!
